I just received an e-mail this morning from Dan's father with a letter to be posted here. The full text of the letter follows.
To all of Daniel Munson’s friends, care providers , and family,
The men and women of Brockport Fire and Ambulance Monroe County Sheriff Dept.
The staff of Strong Hospital especially ED and Burn/Trauma ICU Students and Faculty of RIT and Greece Olympia HS Cadets, Staff and Command of AFROTC Det. 538We want you all to know how much your support, visits, and prayers mean to us. We truly believe that we are witnessing a miracle in Dan’s recovery. While we still have a long way to go, it is clear that he is recuperating quickly. Exceptional emergency response, the finest medical care and the stimulation your visits provide has been key to this remarkable recovery. Our list of new friends grows larger each day as we meet those of you who know Dan. It is impossible for us to express our gratitude. Your generosity and concern are overwhelming and we can’t thank you all enough.
In just two weeks Dan is sitting in a chair and has been eating his own meals. Communication is still difficult at times but very lucid at others. The doctor reports some short-term trauma induced amnesthia, which should clear in time. Dan has muscular and neurological control of his left arm and leg and right arm as well. The right leg seems to be slowly coming around.
It looks likely that Dan will be moving to Saint Mary’s Rehabilitation early next week, Mon. 10/9 or Tues. 10/10. The first prognosis (one that can be very inaccurate) is for about 4 weeks as an inpatient. There will be intense physical, neurological, and emotional rehabilitation.
As Dan progresses through the 4 weeks, he will be evaluated regularly. When ready, Dan can return home for outpatient rehabilitation. The progress evaluations continue while at home and will determine Dan’s readiness to return to RIT.
With Deepest Thanks,
Joe, Karen, and Shannon Munson
